Burn the Rulebook: Pride Begins Within
Shedding the "Shoulds" to Live Louder and Lead From Self-Trust
Let’s Talk About the "Shoulds"
Happy Pride Y’all!
This is the month we start tossing out everyone else’s script.
You know the one. The invisible rulebook passed down from parents, teachers, bosses, religious traditions, and a society that keeps trying to define who we’re allowed to be.
The "good girl" rules. The "don’t rock the boat" energy. The "you should be grateful, quiet, smaller, straighter, more palatable" noise that gets embedded deep in our psyche.
And for what? To earn belonging that never quite felt real. To chase success that never felt satisfying. To perform a version of ourselves that still left us questioning our worth. Let’s get free!
Pride Month isn’t just about being out. It’s about standing in the pride of your whole self.
That means Queer Pride, yes. But also:
Soul Pride.
Decision Pride.
"I left that toxic job" Pride.
"I said no and meant it" Pride.
"I’m done playing small" Pride.
Burning the rulebook is a practice of self-trust. You’re not here to make everyone comfortable. You’re here to be true to YOU.
Do you think anyone believed I should stop working for others and build my own training business around Tarot and astrology? Yeah, not a single person.
Some folks still don’t get it. They question my "why," side-eye my tools, or write it off as woo. But here’s the truth: their discomfort isn’t my problem.
It would’ve been easier to stay in the traditional lane, keep things quiet, and sell something more "professional." But easy doesn’t mean aligned. And for a long time, I didn’t have the inner strength to stand up for my dream when no one else saw it. Now? I trust myself enough to do it anyway.
Is it easy showing up as me - a Black, lesbian, intuitive, rule-breaking truth-teller - every day? No. But I know this: when I stopped asking for permission and started showing up in my fullness, everything changed.
For those of us who never fit the mold,
“Pride is more than a month - it’s a Movement.”
It’s saying, "I exist, I matter, and I’m done shrinking." We are the misfits and magic-makers, and the world needs our voices loud, fierce, and free.
Live It LOUDER
From "Should" to Self-Directed
Truth Bomb: Every "should" you carry is a lie someone needed you to believe in order to control your light.
Ways to Take Action:
Write down 3 "shoulds" that feel heavy this week. For each one, ask: Who gave this to me? What would I do if I didn’t believe this?
Say out loud (yes, out loud): "I don’t owe anyone a version of me that isn’t real."
Choose one small act of rebellion today. Something that brings your joy, your queerness, your voice, or your magic to the surface. Wear the bold lipstick or wild outfit. Say the thing. Sing the song no one else is listening to. Rest when you’re expected to grind.
Rebel Rituals
Mirror Mantra: "I release the rulebook. I live by truth, not tradition."
Journal Prompt: What are the top 3 "shoulds" I’m ready to burn? What part of me will finally breathe once they’re gone?
Tarot Truth
This week’s "What You Need to Know" Tarot pull features the 3 of Wands and 10 of Swords. And wow does it speak to this energy.
The 3 of Wands says it’s time to step into the vision you’ve been dreaming about. But the 10 of Swords is the truth serum: the real block isn’t lack of opportunity, it’s the outdated mental loops you’ve been stuck in.
Burn the thoughts that say you’re not ready. Burn the belief that says you need permission.
